Building your Dream Bedding

I recently finished a super fun project for a friend who was looking for bedding inspiration in her (soon-to-be) new home. After she filled out a quick intake form describing her style, current headboard and bedroom furniture, likes/dislikes in fabrics, etc, I put together an a deck of three different "visions," including exact product links. I thought it would be beneficial to turn the exact project I shared with her into a blog post, so you all can have access to these ideas and links.

Bedding Project

Overall Inspiration + Bedding Elements

I came up with three bedding “visions” for you to consider. The visions contain similar elements (listed below), but each is centered around a different headboard style. You can totally mix and match pieces from one vision to another, based on what you like! I would recommend choosing a headboard style first, whether it be upholstered, wood, black, or something else, then begin building your bedding around that. I designed the three visions around neutral colors, while including subtle color in the throw pillows and blankets. You will find links to the exact products shown; I included several price points, but please let me know if you would like me to assist with finding similar products at other price points.

Vision One - Upholstered Headboard

Vision One is centered around an upholstered headboard. There are several different styles and colors of upholstered headboards, so definitely do your own research so you can see what you love! I gravitate towards neutral upholstery and a wingback design. You can also consider a tufted design. Upholstered headboards are soft and inviting, and create a calming space. I would argue that this is one of the most popular styles of headboard design right now, but I would not consider it “too trendy.” It is classic and will last for years to come. Its neutral, simple style matches almost any duvet, too!

For the bedding, I included a cream colored duvet and sheets, which act as the base for fun pillows and throw blankets. You can play around with other patterns or colors, so think of this vision as a “template” for you to follow as you shop around! Vision Two - Light Wood Headboard

Vision Two is centered around a wood headboard. There are many different styles, stains, and sizes of wood headboards to consider. A light to medium wood is usually what I recommend, as it is versatile and matches several colors. A wood headboard offers a simple, clean, natural look. If you like boho or modern styles, this could be a great option for you. If you plan to incorporate other wood furniture pieces, it is nice to have a headboard that matches.

Again, I based the bedding design off of a neutral base with subtle pops of color in the throw pillows and blankets. I incorporated mostly light colors, to give the vision an airy, natural feel.

Vision Three - Black Headboard

Vision Three is centered around a black headboard. Styles vary from upholstered material to metal to wood. A black headboard creates a sense of sophistication and boldness in a bedroom. It is a great option if you would like to stray away from a more feminine design. Contrasting the black headboard with lighter bedding is ideal, allowing the bedding to “pop.”
